Kyle Richards opened up about her living situation with Teddi Mellencamp and a “scary” night they encountered while appearing on an episode of Bravo’s podcast last week.
As she also discussed her thoughts on paying her own bills amid her separation from Mauricio Umansky, 54, and revealed their plan for their former family home in Encino, California, the 56-year-old Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star joked that she had “shared custody” of Teddi, 43, amid her split from Edwin Arroyave, 47.
“I have shared custody with Teddi Mellencamp. She lives with me on Tuesdays and Wednesdays,” Kyle laughed on the recent episode of Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast.
According to Kyle, she invited Teddi to come live with her after learning that she was looking for a new place.
“She was having to go look for a place and, you know, I’m walking distance to both [Dorit Kemsley] and Teddi. And she was looking for someplace, and before she found a place, she said, ‘Can I stay at your house Tuesday and Wednesday? I need to find someplace.’ And I said, ‘Why wouldn’t you just stay here? Why would you go spend the money? I mean, I have a big house. I have a guest house. That’s silly.’ So, that’s how that started,” she revealed. She added that Teddi was staying in the upstairs bedroom, which was where Kyle stayed when she and Mauricio were still living together post-split.
“It’s the divorce room,” she explained.
Looking back on a recent night with Teddi, Kyle recalled Teddi calling her crying that night and then crawling into bed with her. Kyle shared, “I’m sorry to share that, Teddi, but she literally sounded like a little girl crying.”
Kyle added that “it was the night that the winds were so scary and the fires were starting,” all of which left Teddi quite emotional. She also noted that Teddi was overwhelmed with a lot going on in her life, including “her marriage, the fires [were] going on, being on edge of the evacuations.”
Ultimately, the two of them ended up being “up laughing all night” after getting Botox injected into their lips.
“We were trying to blow out the candle and we were crying laughing. We were trying to whistle … just to have those moments when we’re going through what we’re going through right now is just, it really is helpful,” she gushed. “She is like a sister to me.”
Moving onto the topic of bills, Kyle admitted that Mauricio has always run the show.
“We did everything together, but he was in charge,” she revealed. “Everything’s on auto-pay, but he would say to me, ‘We have a lot of overhead.’ And I would be like, ‘Ugh, that’s the worst. Anyway.’”
“We have a lot of daughters and tuitions and cars, and we have different homes, and I can’t even imagine doing that now, and the reason saying this is because all the sudden, I’m thinking of these things,” she continued. “We’re not divorced. We have not filed for divorce. But if it comes to that, that is going to be the reality.”
Because divorce is possible, Kyle said she’s been considering what to do with their assets.
“We’ve been thinking about, ‘What will we do? Would we sell the house? Would we lease the house out?’ Because it’s such a great house,” she shared. “It’s really hard to part with that beautiful property. So with that being said, we would lease the house out, is the decision we made.”
As she looked to the future and thought of what life would be like paying her own bills, Kyle confessed to being “shook” by how much she was paying for water and her “ridiculous” mortgage.
“I’ve already started thinking to be smarter because if it were me paying those bills, I don’t know if I’d be alive right now,” she admitted.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 14 airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
