There are shows and characters which, despite running their course, leave a significant mark on the networks and audiences who were a part of their run. Gabriel Macht‘s Harvey Specter and the world of Suits is one such show, and in recent times, NBC resurrected the Suits universe with a spinoff, Suits LA. The network looks set to do the same with another show from the USA Network which aired its series finale nine years ago. The medical dramedy, Royal Pains, is being eyed for a revival on NBC, according to Deadline. A revival will also feature the return of original star Mark Feuerstein, who looks set to reprise his role as Dr. Henry “Hank” Lawson.
From 2009-2016, Royal Pains ran for eight seasons during a time when the USA Network could comfortably boast of having some of the best shows on television. Other memorable shows released at that time, known as the USA Network’s “Blue Sky” era, included the aforementioned Suits, Psych, Burn Notice, Covert Affairs, Monk and White Collar. Following Feuerstein’s character, Dr. Lawson — a former New York ER doctor, Royal Pains, chronicles his experience with his own concierge practice in the Hamptons, where he mostly caters to wealthy patients. Alongside Feuerstein, the series also starred Paulo Costanzo, Reshma Shetty, Jill Flint, Brooke D’Orsay, Ben Shenkman, and Campbell Scott. In the anticipated revival, the show will return several years after the series finale with Hank now “searching for a new purpose in life” and “about to embark on his biggest project yet.”
For the upcoming revival, Feuerstein is on board as an executive producer for the project. Original co-creator Andrew Lenchewski and executive producer Michael Rauch will pen the new series, and serve as executive producers alongside Feuerstein and original series alum Rich Frank. No other plot details or cast members have been confirmed.
The Revival of the “Blue Sky” Era
The plans for a revival of Royal Pains by NBC come after the network brought back original creator Aaron Korsh, to revive USA Network’s Suits with Suits LA. While Macht reprises his role as Harvey Specter for a number of episodes in the spin-off. Suits LA is led by Stephen Amell, and boasts a cast which includes Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis, Bryan Greenberg, and Troy Winbush. White Collar, another USA Network series, is also in the midst of getting a reboot, but not on NBC. The planned revival by original creator Jeff Eastin, and starring Matt Bomer, is currently in the market for a home. The revival is, however, titled White Collar: Renaissance, with the pilot episode “Masquerade,” penned by Eastin.
Suits: LA is airing on NBC now. Stay tuned to Collider for updates.
