Originally intended for an October release last year, before the Hollywood strikes derailed those plans, Sony pushed the release of Kraven the Hunter to December 2024. Earlier today, Sony unveiled a new Kraven trailer.
The movie stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson as the titular character as well as Russell Crowe and Ariana DeBose respectively playing Kraven’s father and Calypso, Kraven’s love interest. The film also features Fred Hechinger as master of disguise Dmitri Smerdyakov / Chameleon as well as Alessandro Nivola portraying an actual comic accurate version of the Rhino
Directed by J.C. Chandor and written by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, Richard Wenk, Kraven is Sony’s follow up to the aforementioned meme-tastic Morbius from last year. In contrast to its previous Spidey Universe films, Kraven is R-rated and the filmmakers are taking full advantage.
Those disappointed with the Paul Giamatti version of the Rhino in Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be most pleased to see our best look yet at a more comic book accurate version of the character in the latest Kraven trailer.
Before Kraven arrives in theaters, Sony will be debuting Venom: The Last Dance, the third and final film in this Venom trilogy. After the critical and commercial dud that was Madame Web, whatever the future holds for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe remains to be seen. At least diehard fans still have Beyond the Spider-Verse animated movie to look forward to. With any luck, we’ll be hearing getting some news on release date sometime soon.
Kraven the Hunter arrives in theaters December 13, 2024.
