National treasure LeVar Burton is returning to television in the upcoming gameshow series Trivial Pursuit, where he will take on hosting duties for The CW’s new show. Burton is best known for hosting several shows including Reading Rainbow, and $100,000 Pyramid, as well as playing Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation, as well as several other Star Trek films and series. He has lent his voice to several other animated movies and shows, as well as acting in so many projects. He has had a lengthy career, and he looked to make a permanent gig of his Jeopardy hosting stint, but has landed now at the CW with Trivial Pursuit, another trivia show that sounds like it could be fun to watch!
He will also exec produce the series, which comes from eOne through his LeVar Burton Entertainment banner. The CW insiders cautioned that the deal was not done yet.
It is the latest version of Trivial Pursuit to head to the screen; Freeform precursor The Family Channel ran a series hosted by Wink Martindale in 1993/94 that was loosely based on the game, while a syndicated version, Trivial Pursuit: America Plays, ran in 2008/09.
The IP is owned by Hasbro, which previously owned eOne before it was bought by Lionsgate.
