Lil Wayne has joined those who have congratulated Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce on their engagement.
During a tour stop in Kansas City, where Kelce plays for the city’s NFL team, the Chiefs, Weezy referenced that he was dressed in tribute to the superstar singer while wearing a cardigan.
He said to the crowd: “I’m dressed in spirit. In the spirit of my man Travis and my girl, you already know Taylor. Traylor! That’s what we call them. Congratulations.”
Wayne recently said that he no longer had aspirations of performing at the Super Bowl halftime show after missing out on performing in his hometown of New Orleans earlier this year.
“Every time I looked, it was nothing that made me want to go inside and see what was going on,” he explained, saying he didn’t watch Kendrick Lamar’s performance, before adding: “They stole that feeling. I don’t want to do it. It was perfect.”
He also alleged the NFL had been seemingly hinting that he’d be chosen for the gig as they encouraged him to be more front-facing ahead of time.
“To perform, it’s a bunch of things they’re going to tell you to do and not do, asses to kiss and not kiss,” he explained. “If you notice, I was a part of things I’ve never been a part of. Like [Michael] Rubin’s all-white parties. I’m doing shit with Tom Brady. That was all for that. You ain’t never seen me in them types of venues. I ain’t Drake. I ain’t out there smiling like that everywhere. I’m in the stu’, smokin’ and recording.”
And then when he still wasn’t chosen, he says the NFL simply told him, “We ain’t in charge [of the Super Bowl halftime show].”
He continued: “All of a sudden, according to them, they got curved. So, I’m going to have to just settle with whatever they say.”
Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance would ultimately become the most watched in history and was widely acclaimed for its production and the rapper’s vocal performance and the drama of his disses aimed at arch rival Drake.
