Watching Sam Cusick devote half a year to training for this limit-pushing physical challenge was really wonderous for Lindsay Arnold. She was at the finish line with the family taking pictures and celebrating his 11 hours and 58 minutes achievement. The couple’s active family life which is publicly shared through their daughters Sage and June often was marked by this victory as a new level of personal commitment.
The community’s reaction was immediate and very positive. One of the endurance sports athletes of the couple’s colleague said, ‘As a 2 x IRONMAN or IRONWOMAN I love this!’ pointing out the extreme amount of effort that goes into it. The other person expressed the same sentiment exactly by saying, “That’s an incredibly awesome accomplishment for Sam! Just hearing what he did makes me feel so tired!”
Many people mentioned the family side of the success. One such person even attempted to illustrate the broader effect by stating, “Good job Sam and the example you’ve set for Sage and June and the lessons that you teach without even realizing are immeasurable you’re a great Daddy.” This comment indicates the extent to which Sam’s commitment is not only a personal victory but also a motivating force for his little ones.
Another person said, “I work at Sky Harbor and I’ve never seen so many bikes being checked!!! What an achievement.” This statement of the huge organization involved in staging such events also relates Sam’s individual triumph to the overall commitment of the sports world.
The family’s participation in the races helped others who had supported loved ones through comparable hardships to find personal connections. A woman recounted: “My husband completed IronMan AZ last year and it was such a special moment watching him cross that finish line after months and month of training.” This statement reveals that Lindsay’s experience is also part of a community of supporters who can empathize with and understand the emotional side of Ironman training.
Rachael Cusick, the sister-in-law of Lindsay, also came with a good and fun spirit to the celebration by asking, “Shall we do it again?” and then clarifying, “and by we I mean they”- suggesting that the family would possibly be caught by the endurance racing bug.
