Lisa Vanderpump is weighing in on the news of Jax Taylor‘s recent split from Brittany Cartwright.
As The Valley couple continues to live separately, with Brittany, 35, accusing Jax, 44, of failing to work on their marriage and claiming he put her down “constantly,” the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, 63, recalled that not many felt their relationship would last and suspected Jax’s “bad behavior” was to blame.
“Everybody predicted that when they got married,” Lisa told E! News on March 18. “They said, ‘Oh this won’t last long,’ but I kind of never liked to draw conclusions. I don’t know what the reason was, but I imagine it was probably something to do with Jax’s bad behavior. I’m not sure, but the indicator of future behavior is normally past behavior.”
Although many judged Jax by the cheating scandals he was part of during his time on Vanderpump Rules, Lisa admitted that similar things were said when she wed husband Ken Todd, 78, in 1982.
“I know a lot of people say it’s inevitable, but when I walked down the aisle 42 years ago everybody shook their head and said, ‘This would never last,’” she shared. “Ken being a bad boy in London and 16 years older than me. You go into it totally optimistic.”
While the former RHOBH cast member has her doubts about Jax and his antics, she said she’s wishing them the best, especially since they share a child, two-year-old son Cruz.
“It’s a shame when they have a child,” she noted. “Marriage isn’t easy and there’s always so many options in Hollywood and excuses and their egos involved. I think nearly everybody I know that was married on reality television has separated, except Ken and I.”
In the weeks since announcing their separation, Brittany has made it clear that she won’t be jumping back into her relationship with Jax unless he makes some major changes. In fact, at the premiere party for their new show, The Valley, Brittany admitted to thinking beyond her marriage to Jax and considering using a sperm donor for a second child.
“I don’t want a million kids, but I at least want one more child. I’m only 35, so I could still maybe meet somebody if it goes that route. I don’t know. I’m not saying it would. Maybe if me and Jax got back together, we could still have another one. If not, I’ll go the [Lala Kent] route,” she revealed.
The Valley season one premieres tonight, March 19, after a new episode of Vanderpump Rules season 11.
