Dolby Cinema is making a killer bot’s dreams come true in a brand-new poster to celebrate the impending arrival of M3GAN 2.0. Get a first look at the girl and her protector posing for an old-timey photo — like the embarrassing kind that so many are dragged into during their summer vacation while strolling the boardwalk. In it, Violet McGraw’s Cady wears a green and red outfit while slouched over, as Amie Donald’s M3GAN stands behind the young girl, with her hand on her shoulder. The image is showcased in a washed-out golden frame with the words “Best Friends Forever” inscripted on the bottom along with the film’s title.
After a three-year hiatus, the b is back in M3GAN 2.0. The first movie followed Allison Williams’ (Girls) Gemma, who was granted custody of her niece, Cady (McGraw), after the latter’s parents passed away. Fitting a child into her schedule was a giant learning curve for the new guardian, so she turned to her job as a roboticist to create the perfect companion for her niece. Somewhere along the line, things went widly off the rails after the AI doll, Donald’s M3GAN, develops self-awareness and sees anyone close to Cady as a threat — including Gemma. To maintain her connection, M3GAN goes on a killing spree and is eventually pulled to pieces by Gemma and Cady…
Which is where we will pick up in M3GAN 2.0! In the trailer, we see that M3GAN is still around, just in a different form. However, after Gemma’s design plans are stolen by the military, the new deadly doll goes on a killing spree of her own, intent on tracking down and murdering anyone who had a hand in her creation. With nowhere else to turn, Gemma’s only choice is to put M3GAN back into a (taller) body and let the battle of the killer dolls commence.
Who Stars in ‘M3GAN 2.0’?
Along with Williams, McGraw, and Donald, the voice of M3GAN, Jenna Davis, also returns for the sequel, while new-to-the-series actress, Ivanna Sakhno (Ahsoka), will appear as M3GAN’s adversary, Amelia. Filling out the supporting cast is an ensemble that includes Aristotle Athari (Saturday Night Live), Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords), and Timm Sharp (Percy Jackson and the Olympians). Filmmaker Gerard Johnstone makes a comeback as the project’s director, with Jason Blum and James Wan producing under their Blumhouse and Atomic Monster banners, respectively.
