Following the announcement of her solo project earlier this summer, the Marías singer María Zardoya has shared details of her forthcoming album, Melt. It marks the first release as Not for Radio, something Zardoya described as her “alternate reality.” Melt has 10 songs and will be released on Oct. 10 via Atlantic Records, with vinyl preorders available now. So far, no tracks from Melt have been released, but Zardoya has posted three messages explaining the inspiration behind the album while teasing songs from the tracklist.
“My intention with this project was to make music for the love of experimenting, far from home, fully in the moment, open to whatever stream of consciousness unfolded around us,” Zardoya explains. “That’s exactly what we did in the snowy woods, tucked away, as ice melted beneath our feet and as we melted into the songs. What grew from the melted ice is this album.”

Earlier this summer, Zardoya announced that she had created a solo project separate from her work with the Marías. “Don’t worry, the band will be here forever,” Zardoya says. “I love making music as the Marías, and nothing will ever change that. But I wanted to challenge myself to make a project that resonated with me in a different way. There are layers to who we all are as individuals, and this is another layer of me, another flower in the garden.”
