With his new single “Smile,” Martin Garrix proves that sometimes the most powerful crescendos aren’t measured in volume or bass, but in heart.
Out now via his own STMPD RCRDS imprint, the track finds Garrix trading his usual EDM thunder for a breezier approach, grounding his sound in an unexpected blend of bubbly indietronica and folksy charm.
Featuring vocals from Chad Wolf of the pop-rock band Carolina Liar, “Smile” is akin to sunshine after rain, offering a melodic lifeline to those caught in life’s storms. Invoking yellow brick trains and radiant Joshua Tree sunbursts, his evocative songwriting shines with an earthy authenticity while extending a hand to hold when the world feels overwhelming.
“Smile” doesn’t just invite happiness—it practically manufactures it, bottling candor and compassion into a three-minute dance anthem. Wolf can’t help but gush about the song, which he says they recorded in just 72 hours at a “legendary” studio on the Sunset Strip before embarking on a road trip from Hollywood to Vegas to shoot its music video.
“‘Smile’ is the only way I can describe my emotions when I think about the creation of this song,” Wolf said. “I got my band name, Carolina Liar because no one would believe where my life takes me, and this is one of those moments… Honestly, we could have made a movie out of all the adventures in those three days.”
“Smile” has now hit streaming platforms after Garrix in June debuted it during his sold-out, four-night run at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, where Carolina Liar joined him onstage for a trio of rapturous live performances. Check out the track below and stream it here.
