It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours for fans of The 1975 – and Taylor Swift.
The 1975’s leading man Matty Healy is officially engaged to model Gabriella Bechtel.
Healy’s mum Denise Welch confirmed the news after Bechtel (better known as Gabbriette) sent fans into a frenzy with photos of a ring on that finger.

The engagement news has quickly become one of the most talked about celebrity moments right now – but the traction goes much deeper than the ring.
Just a couple of months ago, Healy was making headlines for a completely different and very high-profile relationship.
The musician’s name was splashed all over the world in April after many fans believed he was the muse for Taylor Swift‘s latest hit album The Tortured Poets Department.

Less than a year ago, Healy was romantically linked to fellow musician Swift.
After first sparking romance rumours a whole decade earlier, the pair were reported to be dating for real in May 2023 after Swift’s split from Joe Alwyn.
For three months, the internet was flooded with grainy videos of Healy attending many of Swift’s Eras Tour shows and snaps of the pair spotted out and about together.
Over the course of their brief relationship, Swift was blasted by much of her fanbase for associating with Healy, who has a controversial history.

After the relationship ran its course, Swifties thought they’d heard the last of Healy – until the musician’s name resurfaced thanks to Swift’s new album.
While many fans thought her latest record, which came out April 19, would focus on her six-year relationship with ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn, many of the songs are speculated to be about her short fling with Healy.

There are several The Tortured Poets Department track fans are convinced are about Healy thanks to some key ‘clues’ in the lyrics – as is Swift’s signature songwriting style.
One of the most convincing tracks fans linked to The 1975 star is But Daddy I Love Him.

Not long after the album drop, many took to social media to point out the song appeared to be blasting fans for their criticism of Swift’s romance with “wild boy” Healy.
Some other songs fans have speculated to be about Healy on the album are The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, The Tortured Poets Department and I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can) among others.
In the track The Tortured Poets Department, fans claimed the line “you left your typewriter at my apartment” seemed to be about Healy, who in an old interview with GQ gushed that he really liked typewriters.

There were even comparisons drawn between Swift’s latest music video for her single Fortnight, which used the black and white aesthetic The 1975 is known for.
Since the release of The Tortured Poets Department, many fans have speculated some of Swift’s older tracks are about Healy too, such as The 1, Cardigan and High Infidelity.
