EXCLUSIVE: Filmmaker Michael Diliberti is set to direct Miami PI, a project he wrote for Endurance Media.
The film is billed as a comedy following a wayward private investigator and a volatile ex-model who are pulled into a murder investigation during the chaos of Miami Swim Week. As they descend into a sun-drenched world of excess, deception, and danger, the unlikely duo must navigate criminal conspiracies — and an unexpected romantic connection — that threatens to derail them both.
It’ll be Diliberti’s second feature behind the camera following the Vertical comedy Bad Man starring Seann William Scott, Johnny Simmons, and Rob Riggle. Steve Richards and Jake Katofsky will produce for Endurance Media, alongside Brian Levy of Subtext Media. Taking place between Miami and Puerto Rico, production is slated for May.
“I couldn’t be more excited to be making MIAMI PI with Steve and Jake,” said Diliberti. “From our very first conversation it was clear we share the same instincts about tone, character, and how to make something that’s both fun and unexpected. I’m also thrilled to be teaming up with Levy again as a producer — having my longtime manager in the trenches with me creatively on set has been personally meaningful.”
Also a screenwriter, Diliberti’s credits in that arena include Ruben Fleischer’s comedy 30 Minutes or Less for Columbia Pictures. He is repped by UTA, Subtext and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
Founded in 2015, Endurance’s past credits include Mark Felt: The Man Who Took Down a President, Villa Capri starring Morgan Freeman, Tommy Lee Jones and Rene Russo, Come Away starring David Oyelowo and Angelina Jolie, Freelance starring John Cena, Alison Brie, Juan Pablo Raba and Christian Slater, and both The Killer’s Game and Afterburn starring Dave Bautista. Utilizing a $250 million financing structure to produce and finance films in the $20 – 60 million range, the company has a strategic alliance with Entertainment One, which serves as both an equity partner and distributor for their films in multiple territories.
