Back in 2021, during The Game Awards, Monolith Productions dropped a surprise announcement that they were developing an open-world Wonder Woman game.
Fans were excited about this as Monolith had built a reputation with the Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor series, and their Nemesis System seemed like a perfect fit for a game about the Amazonian warrior.
But, the game hadn’t even started development when the teaser was revealed. Three years later, updates remain scarce, and according to recent reports, the game is still a long way from being ready.
A new report from Bloomberg sheds light on the uncertain future of Monolith’s Wonder Woman project. WB Games has been struggling lately, with major releases underperforming.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League flopped hard, the Harry Potter Quidditch game failed to capitalize on Hogwarts Legacy’s success, and Multiversus didn’t meet expectations. With both Suicide Squad and Multiversus already shut down, WB is in dire need of a hit. So, the pressure is on for Monolith’s Wonder Woman game… if it ever actually makes it to market.
Monolith hasn’t released a game since 2017’s Middle-earth: Shadow of War. After searching for another WB property that could incorporate their signature Nemesis System, they landed on Wonder Woman.
At the time of its announcement, the game was supposed to feature a Nemesis-infused gameplay experience tailored to Diana’s world. But according to reports, Monolith has since pivoted away from that idea.
The game was reportedly rebooted in 2024, with a new director taking over. This suggests that are have been internal struggles to figure out exactly what this game should be.
The only official word from Monolith in recent memory was a social media post wishing fans a happy Wonder Woman Day in October 2024. Some saw it as a sign that news was coming, but here we are in 2025, and still… nothing.
Not a single gameplay reveal, no story details, just a teaser trailer from years ago that was all about vibes and no substance.
Reportedly, the game has already cost over $100 million in development. That’s a massive investment for something that doesn’t seem close to release. And given WB’s recent financial struggles, there’s always the risk that they could decide to cut their losses.
For now, Monolith’s Wonder Woman game is still in development, but it’s far from being a sure thing. Fans hoping for an update this year might be left waiting even longer.
The game is shaping up to be one of WB’s biggest upcoming projects, alongside the inevitable Hogwarts Legacy sequel. Whether it actually sees the light of day is a question only time will answer.
