Few video game franchises have been around for as long as Assassin’s Creed. It’s been almost 20 years since the first installment in the franchise dropped on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and it’s still continuing to deliver new installments coming as recently as last year, and more on the way. There was even an attempt to adapt the franchise into a live-action movie back in 2016 with Michael Fassbender and Jeremy Irons, but the project was met with a divisive reception due to its changes from the source material. Netflix is currently developing a new live-action Assassin’s Creed series, which will have more time to breathe and flesh out its world due to it being a TV show and not a movie, but it just got the update fans have been waiting for.
Over the last few months, it was announced that stars such as Lola Petticrew, Toby Wallace, Zachary Hart, Laura Marcus, Noomi Rapace, Sean Harris, and even Tanzyn Crawford have joined the cast of Netflix’s live-action Assassin’s Creed series. Just last week, it was confirmed that the show had begun production in Italy, but it’s still unclear yet when it will wrap or when it will be released. Today, Netflix announced three new members of the Assassin’s Creed cast, including Youssef Kerkour, Mirren Mack, and Louis McCartney, and the streamer also revealed that the show will take place in Rome in 64 AD. This is nearly 1,000 years before the events of the first Assassin’s Creed game, but further in the timeline than other entries like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Netflix has also finally released the official logline for Assassin’s Creed, which reads as follows:
“Assassin’s Creed is a high-octane thriller centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions — one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”
What’s Streaming on Netflix Right Now?
Before Assassin’s Creed arrives on Netflix, which likely won’t be until sometime next year, there are more than enough great movies and shows to check out in the meantime. The biggest hit on Netflix at the time of writing is One Piece, which just aired its sophomore season last week. The show is a live-action adaptation of a popular anime that’s been on the air a while. The latest season of Bridgerton is still making an impact on streaming charts with its fourth season, and there is another season of the historical romaance show confirmed to be on the way. The biggest hit movie on Netflix at the time of writing is War Machine, the big-budget sci-fi movie starring Reacher’s Alan Ritchson. It’s the most-watched Netflix movie of 2026 so far.
