Netflix’s Danish supernatural series that has a true crime drama twist to it, Equinox, is a hidden gem that deserves more attention. Created by Tea Linderburg, Equinox delves into the investigation of a strange missing persons case of a group of teenagers who disappeared without a trace while on a school trip in 1999.
True crime is one of the most popular genres with audiences and critics alike, as it provides the perfect escapism through the presentation of mysteries and the process of answering questions that arise throughout a series. While some true-crime shows garner the attention of a large audience, other horror miniseries, like Equinox, manage to slip through the cracks despite their success with critics.
Equinox Is Based On A Danish Podcast That Plays Out Like True Crime
Equinox Is A Horror TV Show With True Crime Elements
Equinox is not necessarily a true-crime TV show. However, it’s based on a popular supernatural Danish podcast called Equinox 1985 that tells its story in the form of true crime. In the TV show, as well as the podcast, a case is presented, and answers to the mystery are slowly revealed as the story goes on, thus mimicking true crime.

Instead, she uncovers that her mother, Lene (Hanne Hedelund), was involved in what happened to Ida because she made a deal with the Hare King, who happened to be Ida’s teacher, Henrik (Alexandre Willaume), in exchange for a child. Henrik kidnapped Ida and her classmates in order to get the prize, which Lene had failed to pay when they struck their deal.
