Is the MCU getting a new Black Panther? The latest rumor reveals how the franchise will be handling one of its most iconic (and sensitive) mantles.
The conversation around what should be done with Black Panther in the MCU has stirred up once more. This is largely due to the rumor mill suggesting that Damson Idris may be brought on to play T’Challa in the franchise going forward, taking up the mantle from Chadwick Boseman following his passing back in 2020.
However, T’Challa isn’t the only character in the running for the Black Panther mantle. The rumor mill has also been suggesting that the MCU may age up his canonical son, Toussaint, in the upcoming Avengers films to take up the mantle of Black Panther. This would allow another “T’Challa” to take up the mantle of Black Panther in the MCU, without directly recasting Chadwick Boseman in the role.
Who Will Be The MCU’s Newest Black Panther?
Yet it seems that fans may have been missing the forest for the trees when asking who will be the “new” Black Panther. Hollywood insider MyTimeToShineHello recently posted that, yes, more Black Panthers will be introduced into the MCU in the coming years. However, the main title of “Black Panther” will remain with Letitia Wright’s Shuri for the foreseeable future.
This rumor certainly makes sense, as the majority of the last Black Panther film focused on Shuri taking on the mantle after her brother’s passing. Shuri was also the main Black Panther in the comics for some time. By having her serve as the main version of the hero in the MCU, it could serve as a much-needed grace period as Marvel tries to figure out if and how to recast Chadwick Boseman’s iconic hero.
