If you’re going to make a Street Fighter movie, you’d better bring the moves. Hadoukens, spinning kicks, ridiculous aerial attacks and bone-crunching finishers are a huge part of what makes these characters so much fun, and a new video shows how the upcoming movie is bringing a dozen of those classic attacks into live-action.
As the video puts it: “From the game to the big screen, see the special moves come to life” in Street Fighter.
The footage cuts between scenes from the games and their live-action counterparts, giving fans a direct comparison of the attacks.
The locations, costumes and circumstances surrounding the fights have changed, but the movements themselves are instantly recognizable. It’s a cool way to see just how closely the filmmakers are pulling from the games when building the movie’s fight choreography.
This movie looks like it’s embracing the colorful, ridiculous fun of the games instead of trying to force the material into something overly serious. That is exactly the right playground for a franchise built around fireballs, impossible martial arts moves and a roster of fighters who were never exactly designed with realism in mind.
The film’s screenplay comes from Dalan Musson and T.J. Fixman, and the cast includes plenty of comedic talent. The marketing has leaned into that playful approach as well, leaning into the fact that this adaptation wants to be an entertaining celebration of Street Fighter rather than burying audiences under franchise mythology.
The story itself takes the action back to 1993, where Ryu and Ken find themselves entering the World Warrior Tournament after Chun-Li brings them back into the fight.
The synopsis reads: “Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury.
“But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”
Of course, being faithful to a character’s special moves isn’t going to make a great Street Fighter movie. But watching these attacks jump from the games into live-action is exactly the kind of thing fans want to see, and some of them look pretty damn awesome.
We’ll find out if the entire movie can land the combo when Street Fighter hits theaters on October 16, 2026.
