Nicole Kidman reveals the one ‘huge career regret’ she has: ‘I didn’t do it’

Nicole Kidman is one of Australia’s biggest and most successful Hollywood exports.

She’s achieved incredible success in Tinseltown with films including Moulin Rouge and Eyes Wide Shut and shows including Big Little Lies.

Now the star, 57, who has just been nominated for a Golden Globe award for Babygirl, admitted she has a “huge” career “regret”.

Speaking candidly in the latest edition of W Magazine, Kidman said she once turned down a part in one of director Jane Campion’s student films due to vanity.

She explained she was performing in a play at the time as part of weekend drama school as a teen, recalling, “The director Jane Campion came and sat in the back of that little theater and then cast me in one of her student films.”

“But I didn’t do it – I didn’t want to wear a shower cap in the film and not look pretty.”

She added: “Huge regret. What a big regret!”

It comes after it was revealed this week that Kidman was nominated for best performance by a female actor in a motion picture, drama, for Babygirl.

In the erotic thriller, Kidman stars as a CEO who has an affair with an intern.

Other Aussie stars nominated for awards include Guy Pearce for The Brutalist as well as Cate Blanchett and Naomi Watts for their roles in Disclaimer and Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.

Just months ago, Kidman and her sister Antonia issued a statement following the death of their beloved mother Janelle Ann Kidman, thanking fans and family for their support throughout the difficult time.

She posted on September 13: “My sister and I along with our family want to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week.”

When the A-lister announced the death of her beloved mother Janelle Ann Kidman, she rushed to leave the 81st Venice Film Festival early to be with her family in Australia.

In a touching letter that was read out on her behalf at the event, Kidman said she was “in shock” and said her late mother “shaped me, guided me and made me”.

Nicole previously spoke about her mother in an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald.

”She’s given me the fire to pursue the career I have because I’ve always wanted to please her,” she said in 2020.

“But she also carved her own path and wanted her daughters to have the same opportunity to carve their own paths.”
