Nintendo has surprised fans with the release of the long-awaited Devil World on the Nintendo Switch Online service, marking its first official launch in North America. The demon-themed Pac-Man clone, initially launched in Japan in 1984, faced considerable restrictions during the era of the notorious Satanic panic, which led to its absence from the North American market for almost four decades.
Developed under the direction of the legendary Shigeru Miyamoto, Devil World presents a unique twist on the classic maze game concept, featuring religious imagery such as Bibles and crosses to combat spectral monsters, culminating in a showdown with the Devil himself. Despite its historical significance, Devil World has garnered more attention as a relic of Nintendo’s past, with limited exposure to English-speaking audiences until its recent inclusion in the Nintendo Switch Online library.
