If you’ve seen Marty Supreme or I Love LA, you’ll definitely be familiar with 25-year-old Odessa A’zion.
Her breakout roles have made her one of the standout stars of the past year; however, her acting work isn’t the only thing that’s got fans talking.
If you’ve been following the Marty Supreme press tour over the past month or so, you may have seen the chatter about Odessa’s hair and whether or not it’s real.
For clarity, wigs and extensions are very standard on Hollywood red carpets; wearing a wig is a great way to change up your look without damaging your real hair. Some celebs are totally open about their use of wigs, while others prefer to keep the fans guessing — which brings us to all the speculation surrounding Odessa’s signature dark curls.
On social media, plenty of intrigued fans have been analyzing how Odessa’s curls have changed over the years. For context, this is her in 2022.
So, speaking to Deadline at the Critics’ Choice Awards on Sunday, Odessa finally weighed in on the viral conversation, and it sounds like there’s some truth to the wig allegations.
“There’s a whole debate, ‘Is it a wig? Is it not?’ I guess we’ll never know,” she said, playing into the mystery. “The gag is the LA premiere was a wig, and the New York premiere, it took me five hours to do my hair, and everyone thinks it’s a wig.”
There you have it. For a visual reference, this is Odessa’s own hair at the New York premiere.
Hilariously, Odessa went on to school fans by giving some insight into how expensive high-quality wigs really are. “You think I can afford a wig like that and wear it all the time?” she said. “Those are so expensive. I’ve heard wigs can go up to like $20 or $30,000. Are you fucking kidding me?”
“I don’t even have a hair, makeup, and stylist because I’m trying to save my money,” she said. “That’s expensive, I’m not doing that right now. Maybe one day.”
