Here’s a great making-of documentary for the classic 1990 live-action film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This is the doc that was included on the original VHS tapes of the film.
The doc is titled Behind the Shells, and it offers fans a peek inside the making of the first two live-action TMNT films, with creator interviews, behind-the-scenes sequences, and details shared by the cast and crew.
I loved the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie when I was a kid and we recently talked about it in an episode of our Secret Level podcast, where we shared even more interesting details.
The film follows four anthropomorphic turtles—Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael—who have been transformed by a mysterious ooze and trained in the art of ninjitsu by their rat sensei, Splinter.
Living in the sewers of New York City, the turtles emerge to combat the nefarious Foot Clan, led by the formidable Shredder. When news reporter April O’Neil discovers the turtles, she becomes their ally, helping them navigate the challenges of fighting crime and protecting their home.
Throughout the movie, the turtles confront both external and internal conflicts. The Foot Clan’s criminal activities escalate, leading to the kidnapping of Splinter, which deeply affects the team, especially Raphael, who grapples with anger and the need for vengeance.
The turtles’ unity and sense of family are tested as they plan a rescue mission and confront Shredder in an epic showdown.
