Philbo Distribution, New Name In Comics Distribution, To Fill A Gap

Philbo Distribution is a new independent comics distributor being set up to fill the gap left by Diamond, Penguin Random House and Lunar.

Philbo Entertainment Promotions Inc., owned and run by CEO Phillip Russertt, is launching a new independent publisher distribution company, from comic book publishers to comic book stores, as Philbo Distribution. Philbo to rhyme with Bilbo. Intending to sit alongside Diamond, Lunar and Penguin Random House, Phil tells Bleeding Cool that “we will be sending our digital catalog out monthly starting July 1st, 2025, to all retailers, whether brick and mortar or web-based retailers.” Named publishers and creators include Zendescope, Antarctic Press, Crusade Fine Arts, Counter Point Comics,  Get Your Medz, Homebrewed Comics, Edge Comics, Committed Comics, Crusade Comics, Grok! Comics, Home Brewed Comics. Knuckle Supper Studios, Monstrous Books, Philbo Publishing, Spero, Story-Ark, and more. As for the name, Phil says “I’m a huge Lord of the Rings fan and have big hobbit like feet so my wife calls me Philbo.” and now that’s what Phil names everything else.

Already the publisher and distributor behind the superhero comic Tragedy, it will now be two companies, Philbo Publishing and Philbo Distribution. They now will distribute and resell not only their own comics but also works from other independent publishers.

Students of comic book distribution history will recognise this model as well, Scott Rosenberg, Dave Olbrich and Dave Campiti becoming well known for turning publishers into distributors, such as with Sunrise Distribution, with mixed results, as well as Nick Landau over at Titan. Now Massive Publishing seems to be doing similar with Massive Indies, though within Lunar Distribution.

Philbo Distribution states that this expansion will enable comic book writers to gain a stronger foothold in the North American market, spanning both the United States and Canada. But also that Philbo Distribution will distribute action figures such as SPERO Toy Enterprises line of figures, Animal Warriors of the Kingdom with their tie-in comic book. “This is an opportunity for independent comic book creators to showcase their talent on a broader scale, without the financial barriers that often come with self-distribution,” said Phillip Russertt. “Our mission is to create an economically viable option for creators, ensuring they retain the bulk of the financial rewards for their hard work. As a fellow creator, I understand the dedication that goes into every project, and I want to see independent comic book authors reach their full potential.”
