While Monica was on Play School she released six children’s albums – and after leaving the show she switched to making jazz music and was a member of a few different bands.
Since departing Play School, Monica has spoken at length about her experience – both the good and the bad – being on the show.
In 2021, she claimed that her eight-year stint ended because she was made to leave due to her age.
“The kids loved them, the show was going great, but somewhere along the way, some executive decided to do a sweep of all the older generation presenters,” she told The Australian.
Monica alleged the older presenters in the late ’90s were then replaced by “young soapy types”.
Speaking to Hit’s Cliffo and Gabi in 2020, Monica also revealed the show was filmed in a very old-fashioned way – meaning that hardly anything was ever left on the cutting room floor.
“It was this feeling of danger but feeling of… anything could have happened, because it was live taped,” she said.
“The only time we cut was when John swore,” she added with a laugh.
Since Play School, Monica co-authored a cookbook and opened multiple antique stores in Sydney. She also spent several years presenting on Better Homes and Gardens.
