If you’re still looking for more Yellowstone despite the show’s future remaining in doubt amid revival rumors, Netflix may be ready to scoop up the hit Western’s audience with Ransom Canyon.
Ransom Canyon has been in the works for a while, but I wasn’t sold on it until I watched the trailer.
But first, let’s dive into the specifics.

All Ransom Canyon Season 1 episodes will premiere on the streaming platform on April 17.
The official logline begins: “Welcome to Ransom Canyon, where love, loss, and loyalty collide beneath the crimson mesas of Texas Hill Country.

The series charts “three ranching family dynasties locked in a contest for control of the land,” which puts “their lives and legacies” on the line from “outside forces intent on destroying their way of life.”
Josh Duhamel Headlines Netflix Western
Josh Duhamel toplines as “stoic rancher Staten Kirkland, who is healing from heartbreaking loss and on a quest for vengeance.”
“Staten’s only glimmer of hope rests in the eyes and heart of Quinn O’Grady (Minka Kelly), longtime family friend and owner of the local dancehall,” Netflix teases.
“But as the battle to save Ransom wages on, a mysterious cowboy drifts into town, dredging up secrets from the past.

“Vise tightening, Staten fights to protect the land he calls home, and the only love that can pull him back from the demons that haunt him.”
If you’re still deciding whether to watch it, the official trailer may convince you to do so.
It looks like a fun thrill ride that would be best enjoyed binged, so it’s good that we’re getting all episodes in one sitting.
Yellowstone’s success has ushered in a wealth of similarly themed dramas, but Ransom Canyon promises to be more romantic.
Romances play well with Netflix’s audience. Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias have survived for many years because they rack up sky-high viewing figures around the globe.
Every Network Wants the Next Yellowstone
If I had to guess, Ransom Canyon will have more in common with the two aforementioned Netflix hits, but marketing it as the next Yellowstone will generate a wealth of initial interest.
Yellowstone was so big that even if a fraction of its viewers checked out Ransom Canyon, it would be deemed a success.

The sad part is that Yellowstone could have gone out with vigor if it hadn’t become so self-indulgent.
Yellowstone Season 5 felt like Taylor Sheridan was given an unlimited budget and attempted to make it more about experiences he wanted to film.
In doing so, he completely destroyed the series’ legacy, sent it out with a whimper, and may have hindered future spinoffs.
But hey, he’s got Landman and countless other properties on the air, so he’ll be fine.

Ransom Canyon joins a packed schedule on Netflix, which already includes Zero Day (February 20), Toxic Town (February 27), Beauty in Black (March 6), Adolescence (March 13), and The Residence (March 20).
Based on the trailer and plot details, what are your initial impressions of Ransom Canyon? Do you think it will be one of the shows to watch this spring?
Let’s lasso those thoughts in the comments section!
