Garcelle Beauvais presented Sutton Stracke’s mom, Reba, with a scarf on the latest episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills only to receive an underwhelming response. And after the episode, she and her castmates looked back on the awkward moment.
As Garcelle, 58, and Sutton, 53, sat with Jennifer Tilly, 66, and reflected on Reba’s hilarious reaction to Garcelle’s kind gesture, Sutton also opened up about her divorce from her ex-husband, Christian Stracke, and admitted to telling her son James that Reba had called him “weird.”
“I think I got it for Christmas,” Sutton admitted of the scarf on the February 4 episode of the RHOBH: After Show.
“Did she regift it? I’m dead! I’m dead!” Garcelle proclaimed. “She was like, ‘What am I gonna do with this?’ What should I have brought?”
“A chisel? I don’t know … She likes a bathrobe,” Sutton suggested.
Then, after Garcelle agreed with Jennifer that it was “the gesture” that counted, Jennifer signaled Reba’s no-filter attitude.
“She just says what’s on her mind. She has absolutely no sensor,” she pointed out.
Sutton then recalled her split from Christian, admitting that as she worried about herself since she “hadn’t worked in 17 years,” Reba was equally concerned about her own well-being.
“My house in Augusta, that was joint property and she lives in the house behind the house and everything, we kind of take care of her. I’m like, ‘Well, can we do me first? We’ll get to you, Reba. But let’s do me first,’” Sutton shared. “So it was a bit hurtful for me … [But] I’m sure there’s a point where she must have felt like, ‘Well, now who’s gonna take care of me?’”
Reflecting on her own divorce from Mike Nilon, who she caught cheating, Garcelle suspected her mother would’ve wanted her to stay with him for the kids — and security.
“She would probably hope that I would look the other way just because it’s like ‘well you’ve got these two babies and you’re going to be by yourself,’ and I think that’s old school thinking,” she noted.
Meanwhile, Kyle Richards, 56, admitted that Reba could be “harsh,” but she suggested that her intention was “coming from a good place.”
Still, Sutton continued on about the hurt she felt from Reba amid her breakup.
“She and Christian were very close. In a way, it was like a PK and Kyle thing,” she explained. “They kept talking. I was like, ‘Why are you talking to him?’ She liked to call him and talk to him. … [And] I had a long discussion with her when I found out that they were. I was like, ‘You’re hurting my feelings.’”
“But I think she’s gotten it. I think they don’t talk anymore,” she added.
Also on the RHOBH: After Show, Sutton said she informed James of Reba’s “weird” comment at Thanksgiving.
“I was like, ‘Mom, you know, you have to remember. You did call James the weird one.’ And he kind of looked at her, and she goes, ‘Well, James, you are weird,’” Sutton revealed. “She’s gonna stand by what she says.”
“James is his own person. He doesn’t care what anybody thinks. He’s gonna do what he’s gonna do, and maybe she thinks that’s weird, but she does the same thing,” she added.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills season 14 airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on Bravo.
