Robert Downey Jr., who picked up an Oscar this year for “Oppenheimer,” will make his Broadway debut this fall in Ayad Akhtar’s new drama, “McNeal,” at Lincoln Center Theater in New York City.
Robert Downey Jr. is set to star in a new drama by the Pulitzer-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar. The play is about a gifted novelist with a difficult family life and a potentially problematic interest in artificial intelligence. Sounds like he might be taking a page out of co-star Scarlett Johanssen’s A.I. problems with a nod to her film Her, in which she played the A.I. itself. Not too much is known about the project thus far, but fans of the actor are very excited for this new venture.
The new play is under the direction of Bartlett Sher for Lincoln Center Theater. The show will begin previews at the Vivian Beaumont Theater September 5. With plans for the production to open September 30 as the first Broadway production of LCT’s 40th Anniversary season. The production will play a strictly limited engagement through November 24.
