Robert Pattinson, who is soon set to appear in The Drama alongside Zendaya, spoke to his co-star about his experience with therapy. It seems that the Good Times actor did not always have the best time when it was about counselling. Pattinson recalled one particular instance where his therapist asked him if he was on drugs. He was asked this simply because they could not understand the Twilight star.
Robert Pattinson talks to Zendaya about his experience with therapy
Robert Pattinson and Zendaya sat down for a discussion for Interview Magazine ahead of the release of The Drama. Touching upon many topics through the conversation, Pattinson discussed a negative experience he had with a therapist.
He recalled the experience while speaking to Zendaya. “I went to therapy once, and the therapist asked me if I was on drugs because they couldn’t understand what I was talking about,” the actor revealed, “I was like, ‘I’m trying my best.”
This was especially bad for the actor because this was not the only time he felt misunderstood. He had previously felt the same way when he was looked up to as a teen icon following his Twilight stint. “I really enjoyed making the movies, but then there was such a huge marketing push behind it as well. I didn’t want to get my personal identity caught up in that, so I tried to push forward my individuality a little, and that kind of stuck with me,” Pattinson explained.
“It was also interesting getting famous off of playing a part — people thought I was that character in the beginning,” he added, “[I] wasn’t precious about that identity because it wasn’t my identity to begin with. It’s interesting to use the public perception of you as part of your character development, because you’re like, ‘I assume at least a few people in the audience are going to be expecting this,’ so you can make it more dramatic.”
Of course, it did not take Robert Pattinson to break out of the mould. He went on to star in films like The Batman, Mickey 17, The Lighthouse, and Die My Love. With this, he became one of the most respected actors of his generation.
The Drama premieres on April 3, 2026.
