“I would buy records just because they were on it.” Magnolia Pictures has revealed an official trailer for a rock doc called Immediate Family, about making music in the 70s. This documentary is made by director Denny Tedesco, who states: “I had been hesitant to make a follow up to The Wrecking Crew. But when I was approached with the idea of The Immediate Family, I didn’t think twice. The Immediate Family consists of Danny ‘Kootch’ Kortchmar Guitar / Vocal, Leland Sklar Bass, Russ Kunkel Drums, Waddy Wachtel Guitar / Vocal & Steve Postell Guitar / Vocal. They were at the genesis of the Singer Songwriter Era in the 1970s…” The film follows the music & lives of legendary 1970s session musicians who were featured on some of the most iconic recordings from the era. Featuring Carole King, James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Keith Richards, Don Henley, David Crosby, Jackson Browne, Lyle Lovett, Phil Collins. It premiered at festivals last year, and will be out to watch this fall on VOD + in theaters for one night. ? ? It looks good, about more than rock.

Denny Tedesco’s film Immediate Family tracks the rise and collaborations of a group of legendary studio musicians through the 1970s and onward, chronicling their illustrious partnerships and their formidable record of hit-making. From Denny Tedesco, whose documentary film The Wrecking Crew followed the first wave of studio musicians in the 60s, the film reveals the machinery behind the booming era of the singer-songwriter, when the talents of these four musicians were in furious demand. The foundations of their enduring friendship, formed on the road and in studios, is recalled with dynamite clarity — reminisced with fondness through intimate interviews with the guys themselves, as well as the memories of some of rock’s most iconic voices. Immediate Family is a backstage tour spanning multiple eras of musical history.
Immediate Family is directed by doc producer / filmmaker Denny Tedesco, directing his second film after making The Wrecking Crew! in 2008 previously. He also most recently produced the “Hanging with Dr. Z” series based on Planet of the Apes. Produced by Jack Piatt, Greg Richling, Jonathan Sheldon. This initially premiered at the 2022 Woodstock Film Festival last year, and it also played at DOC NYC. Magnolia Pictures will debut Tedesco’s Immediate Family doc film in limited theaters for one-night-only on December 12th, 2023, then available on VOD starting December 15th.
