Oh, damn! We’ve heard about a secret feud between Sydney Sweeney and Zendaya, allegedly raging behind the scenes on Euphoria. This one? This is going to be loud and proud!
Ruby Rose took to her feed on Threads Monday night to put the Anyone But You star on blast… over her new movie!
As you may have heard (but not seen because let’s face it, at a $649 per screen average, no one went and saw it), Sydney starred in a movie that dropped over the weekend called Christy. It’s the true story of Christy Martin, the most famous female boxer of her time — whose real battles were behind closed doors as her abusive husband nearly killed her. Christy went on to find her happiness later on — eventually coming out as gay. Go girl!
So… was this really the right role for Sydney Sweeney, the (accidental?) poster girl of the anti-woke young conservative movement? The openly gay Ruby doesn’t think so! She revealed to her followers that she was attached to a previous iteration of the film — and she hates that Sydney “ruined” it! She wrote:
“The original Christy Martin script was incredible. Life changing. I was attached to play Cherry. Everyone had experience with the core material. Most of us were actually gay. It’s part of why I stayed in acting.”
Damn! We’re sad for Ruby she didn’t get to make that version. That’s not the issue, as she says “losing roles happens all the time.” What she’s upset about is how Sydney’s people are trying to spin the movie flopping as unimportant — because it was such a labor of love:
“For her PR to talk about it flopping and saying SS did it for the ‘people’. None of ‘the people’ want to see someone who hates them, parading around pretending to be us. You’re a cretin and you ruined the film. Period. Christy deserved better.”
Ouch! “Someone who hates them.” She really believes Sydney Sweeney is not only a racist, as has been widely speculated after her jeans ad… but that she’s a full-on anti-LGBT right-winger! Ouch!

But is that even true??
We just don’t know what to make of Sydney as a movie star right now. It seems like she (or her reps) are determined not to lose the Republican fandom that’s sprouted up around her. When asked point-blank about the jeans ad being read as some kind of hidden Nazi propaganda, she basically said she had no comment! Not to say she never saw it like that, not even just to say she’s vehemently anti-Nazi. Maybe she’s actually fine being thought of as racist… or maybe she doesn’t think she has to prove herself? We really can’t fathom not trying to defend against crazy allegations like that.
Meanwhile, you have Sydney the movie star… who’s produced three films that have come out so far. One was a rom com centered around an interracial lesbian wedding, one was a pro-choice allegory horror film, and now this one… All of them are, frankly, pretty damn woke.
So is the real Sydney the one making these movies? Or the one Republicans love? Because these conservatives she’s apparently continuing to court ain’t helping her box office any! We mean, certainly the Young Republicans and groypers singing Sweeney’s praises after the American Eagle thing aren’t going to actually go see a lesbian boxer biopic.
On the other side of things… Did enough people in the real world skip Christy because, like Ruby Rose, they assume she’s some anti-LGBT crusader in disguise? If so, did she ruin the movie??
