‘RUMOUR’ Moves Items Between Horror Worlds to Solve Puzzles

RUMOUR is a horror game full of puzzles where you need to move objects from one world into another to save your brother.

You hear some far-fetched tales about two worlds colliding at this university, causing some sort of drama, so you and your brother break in. After fooling around, you both end up finding a lens which seems to make items within it change worlds. Your brother ends up going into this alternate dimension, so you now need to explore the university, find out more about this lens, and hopefully save your brother from whatever monsters are in that world.

This puzzle game has a lot of tense horror elements to it as you work on solving problems. From moments where you suddenly realize that the mannequins move in the art department to exploring the strangely-abandoned planetarium, things get creepy here in a hurry. You do quickly find a weapon – a nail gun – but ammo is limited. Sometimes larger monsters appear and attack you, but often you can mow them down with your weapon before they finish you off.

When you’re not shooting monsters and solving puzzles related to moving items between worlds, there are moments when you can follow the notes that are scattered around, giving context to what is going on and what the other world might be like. Most importantly, you’ll be using that lens you found to see things that don’t currently exist in your world, bringing them to you to help yourself out. The whole world hides many secrets that will help you with its puzzles. Just try not to get eaten while paying close attention to your lens.

When I played the demo of RUMOUR at BCN Game Fest, I found the puzzles to be so interesting. Just when you feel like you understand them, you find that they actually are slightly more complicated then you think. It’s interesting, captivating, and there are a lot of twists and turns here and there. I found the entire thing to feel tense, partially because of the strange creatures and partially because of the lighting within the game. It’s moody, creepy, and something that feels quite unique.
