Sabrina Carpenter has skyrocketed to international fame over the past year or so, with a string of huge hits to her name — but, no matter how famous she is now, her best friend Joey King always has her back.
King flew to Chicago to take her lucky nieces to Carpenter’s show at the United Center on Sunday night (October 13) — but instead of just swanning around backstage, the actress joined thousands of normal fans in the mosh pit, and had the best time.
“I got to see my wife perform in Chi town last night,” the Kissing Booth star shared via Instagram. “I cried of course, she’s just the shortest and sweetest pop star I’ve ever seen.” And when a fan commented that it was weird that she was in the pit with all of Carpenter’s not-so-famous fans, she explained that she just “wanted to mosh babe”!
She added via Instagram Stories, “I love you my brina. Perfect girl. Perfect show. Feel so lucky to watch you shine.”
The two stars, both 25, share a history as Disney Channel alum, but didn’t become BFFs until more recently, when they hit it off at a charity event. “Funny thing is, her and I have always known each other and we’ve always been friends,” King told Rolling Stone. “But we didn’t become as close as we are now until like around four or five years ago. But we’ve known each other for over ten years.”
King explained that it was Carpenter who first decided to break the ice. “Sabrina came over to me and was like, “Hi, I’m Sabrina!’,” she recalls. “What’s funny is we weren’t always super close. For the first several years of our friendship, we would hang out like once every year and it was the funnest thing in the world, we don’t know why it took us so long to become as close as we are now.”
And this isn’t just a superficial showbiz friendship for the cameras — Carpenter even sang at King’s wedding to director Steven Piet in September 2023 and wrote via Instagram at the time, “My wife got married and I wept and wept. I felt so immensely lucky to be part of your special day. I love you both dearly, congrats on your love.” At the ceremony in Mallorca, Spain, multi-talented Carpenter sang ‘Tjugonde’ by Amason, a Swedish band — in Swedish!
In fact, these two are always showing up for each other — King also appeared in Carpenter’s ‘Sue Me’ music video.
At the Chicago show, King dressed all in pink and shared lots of photos with both Carpenter and her nieces. “Ugh I love being an aunt,” she wrote. And we’re sure her nieces just love having a famous aunt who happens to be BFFs with a huge popstar!
