Is Sasha Calle coming back as Supergirl? The actress speaks on a potential return to the superhero genre as she reflects on her past in the DC Universe.
The Flash is largely considered to be one of the biggest failures of the DC Universe, both box office wise and reception wise. However, there is one element of the project that fans largely consider to be stellar. That, of course, being Sasha Calle’s performance as Supergirl.
Of course, with hindsight fans know that Sasha Calle’s time in the DC Universe was a one-and-done. However, during the lead-up to The Flash releasing, the actress seemed poised to continue on as Supergirl in the rebooted franchise. Even though that didn’t exactly pan out, Calle is still grateful to where the role has taken her career.
“I’m so grateful,” Calle explains in a recent chat with Entertainment Weekly. “Someone mentioned today the video when Andy Muschietti calls me and tells me that I got the job. And I still [remember], the feeling was so surreal, you know?”
“And it’s taken me to a place where I get to work now with Ben and Matt [Damon], Teyana [Taylor], Catalina [Sandino Moreno], Steven [Yeun], Kyle [Chandler]. I’m so, so, so utterly grateful that it’s brought me into this world where I can make art. I loved it,”
Will Sasha Calle Play Another Superhero?
Even though Sasha Calle’s time as Supergirl was cut short, the DC Universe is no stranger to having actors return to the franchise as a new character. Given Calle’s star power is only growing, it’s possible that she could land a more consistent role in a superhero universe. And while the actress isn’t exactly waiting by the phone, she’s certainly open to the call.
“I don’t know, it depends. If I get a call, I’m open to receiving it, you know?”
Given almost every role Sasha Calle’s most recent role after The Flash was another serious action flick, it would be interesting to see her take on a brighter role in the DC Universe, serving to contrast her gritty take on Supergirl. Though with Calle’s eyes seemingly squarely on the action genre, it wouldn’t be shocking to see her take on another superhero mantle sometime in the future.
The Flash is currently streaming on Max. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe!
