Savannah Guthrie‘s 84-year-old mother Nancy is missing, according to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff Chris Nanos told reporters at a briefing tonight that the elder Guthrie was last seen by family at about 9:30 or 9:45 last night. His deputies, along with search and rescue were out looking for her this evening and asking for the public’s help in locating Guthrie.
We get these calls quite often, and we do a good job of searching the area,” he said, “but his one stood out because of what was described to us at the scene and what we found just in looking at the scene.”
Asked about the involvement of homicide detectives, and whether that is standard procedure, the sheriff said, “It’s not standard. Typically our homicide team comes out when he have a homicide, a body.”
He said that, although no body has been found, the team was brought in this time “simply because what the scene was telling us.” The homicide team is currently “processing” the scene.
“I hope we find her safe and sound, but we can’t ignore what’s in front of us.”
Guthrie is 84 years old and not in good physical health.
“She has no cognitive issues at all,” said the sheriff, “just some physical ailments that limit her to move around.”
“We’re throwing everything at this we can.”
