Scarlett Johansson is one of Hollywood‘s most successful stars.
But as well as hitting headlines for her countless successful movies and awards wins, she’s also had quite an interesting love life over her three-decades in the industry.
While now she’s found her happy ending with husband Colin Jost, she’s also dated a number of high profile people over the years including Ryan Reynolds and Sean Penn.

Here’s a look back at her dating history.
Jack AntonoffÂ
Johansson’s love life began with her high school sweetheart, Jack Antonoff. They dated from 2001 to 2002 when they attended Professional Children’s School in New York City together, even being each other’s prom dates.
They broke up after graduation, with Antonoff going on to become a hit songwriter and record producer, most famously for Taylor Swift.
He is now married to actress Margaret Qualley.Â
Jared LetoÂ
In 2004, the 20-year-old Johansson dated 30 Seconds To Mars frontman Jared Leto, who was 13 years her senior.
The relationship didn’t seem like it would last, especially with the infamous paparazzi shot of her going in for a kiss while he looked over her shoulder and down at his phone.Â
Josh HartnettÂ
Johansson soon found love on-set with her Black Dahlia co-star Josh Hartnett.
The pair dated from 2005 to 2007, but with both of their respective careers taking off, it was hard to build up their relationship.Â

After the split, Hartnett, then 28, spoke about the “really painful” breakup with the then-22-year-old.
“It was difficult spending so much time apart with all our different commitments and both of us flying all over the world,” he told Mirror UK.
“At the end of the day, we’re just ordinary people and it didn’t work.”

Ryan ReynoldsÂ
One of Johansson’s most high-profile relationships was also her most private. Not much is known about her relationship with Ryan Reynolds, but what is known is that they got engaged in May 2008 and married four months later in September.
The pair wed in a secret ceremony in the Canadian actor’s native British Columbia, but the union wasn’t to last.Â
They separated in December 2010, before officially divorcing in July 2011.Â

At the time of their split they shared a statement with the public reading: “After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.”Â
Over a decade after her marriage, she was able to talk about it openly in a 2019 interview.
“I mean, the first time I got married I was 23 years old,” she shared with Vanity Fair.
“I didn’t really have an understanding of marriage. Maybe I kind of romanticised it, I think, in a way.”
Sean PennÂ
As her divorce from Reynolds was being finalised in 2011, Johansson was connected to actor Sean Penn, when she was about 27 and he was about 51.
They were spotted at the 2011 White House Correspondents Dinner, where they kissed inside the event and held hands as they came and went. The fling fizzled out in June 2011.

Romain DauriacÂ
The Black Widow actress began dating French journalist Romain Dauriac in November 2012 after being introduced by mutual friends in Paris.
When they initially connected, Dauriac barely spoke any English, and the two communicated in different languages. But it wasn’t a big deal for the actress.Â
“I felt like we were [always] talking the same language. I thought his vocabulary was impressive!” she told Parade magazine in April 2015.
“Maybe it was the language of love.”

When asked what was most attractive about him, she said, “His brain. He’s the smartest person I know. I was attracted to the way that he thinks, his sense of irony, how he looks at things. … He’s funny.”
The former magazine editor stayed away from the spotlight but made sure to support his partner in her career.
This included the premiere of Under The Skin at the 70th Venice International Film Festival in 2013, where it was revealed the pair had become engaged after nine months of dating.
Then came their daughter, Rose Dorothy Dauriac, in August 2014. They married shortly after in a secret wedding ceremony in Montana in the US on October 1, 2014.Â
Sadly, the union did not last, with the actress filing for divorce in March 2017 after reportedly splitting in mid-2016. In the documents she stated that the marriage was “irretrievably broken”, despite Dauriac urging her to withdraw the filing. She did not do so, and the divorce was finalised in September 2017.Â
Since then, she and Dauriac co-parent their daughter and the actress has spoken in interviews about the experience.Â
“Understanding what it is to co-parent – that’s a very specific thing. It’s hard to raise a child with someone you’re no longer with. It’s hard,” the actress said in the 2019 Vanity Fair interview.
“It’s not probably how it’s ‘supposed to be’… But, you know, I think my ex and I do it as well as we can. You have to prioritise your child and not put yourself in the middle. It has its challenges.”

She added that she had always wanted a big family, hoping for it in both of her marriages.
“The idea of building a family, making a family and having that work, I like that idea. I think that would be wonderful. I’ve always wanted that. I wanted that also in my marriage to my daughter’s father as well. It just wasn’t the right person. But I like that idea.”
Colin JostÂ
The love story of Johansson and her current husband Colin Jost spans decades and many missed encounters.Â
They first met in 2006, when they were both starting out in their careers. She was a guest host on Saturday Night Live (SNL), where he was a writer.
Johansson has no recollection of this first meeting, but remembers him from when she hosted again in 2010. She was struck by the confident way he directed the segment she was in. At the time, she was married to Reynolds.Â

They finally got to know each other properly in May 2017, months after her split from her second husband. She was again invited back on to the show for the season finale and the pair were seen engaging in a lot of PDA at the wrap party.Â
They didn’t confirm anything until September 2017, when Jost made a passing comment on the Emmy’s red carpet.
“She’s wonderful…She’s working, so otherwise, she’d be here,” he told ET.
“She’s pretty cool…it’s hard to have a lot of complaints, she’s pretty awesome. I’m very happy. I feel very lucky.”
They made their official red carpet debut in November of that year at a gala for the American Museum of Natural History.Â
They went on to attend a number of events together, eventually moving in together at the two year mark of their relationship and eventually announcing their engagement in May 2019. The actress showed off an 11-carat, pear-shaped diamond engagement ring during a Comic-Con panel for Black Widow in July 2019.Â
She gushed to Ellen DeGeneres on her eponymous show in October 2019 about Jost’s proposal, telling the TV host, her fiancé “killed it”

“He’s very charming and very thoughtful and romantic,” Johansson said.
“But yeah, I was surprised. Even if you kind of imagine what that moment’s gonna be like, it’s still beautiful moment.

“I think, more than anything, when someone tells you they want to spend their life with you, that’s a lovely, special thing.”Â
The Marriage Story star further gushed about her future husband in an April 2020 interview with Parade.Â
“What you see is what you get with him,” she said.
“He’s very optimistic, easygoing, funny, nice, and those are the qualities that really drew me to him.”
The SNL comedian also shared his feelings about their upcoming wedding.
“I’m about to get married. I now almost have a stepdaughter who I love and is a big part of my life now,” Jost told the New York Times about Johansson’s daughter with Dauriac.
In his 2020 memoir, A Very Punchable Face, he gushed, “I’ve met someone I love and who I feel more comfortable with than I ever have before.”

He even hinted towards starting a family, penning, “I’ve even woken up on a Sunday after a show and thought, ‘I would love to be raising a baby right now!’ Which is a far cry from when I used to wake up on a Sunday and think, ‘Can I make it to the bathroom, or should I just puke on this plant?'”
As the world plunged into uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic, the pair made an unusual announcement via charity Meals on Wheels.
In October 2020, the non-profit shared an image on Instagram of a New York ferry with a string of cans photoshopped on it with the words “Jost married” over the top.Â
“We’re thrilled to break the news that Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost were married over the weekend in an intimate ceremony with their immediate family and loved ones, following COVID-19 safety precautions as directed by the CDC,” the caption read.Â
“Their wedding wish is to help make a difference for vulnerable older adults during this difficult time by supporting @mealsonwheelsamerica.”
The announcement for their first baby together was equally as quirky, with the comedian accidentally mentioning the pregnancy while performing stand-up comedy in Connecticut in August 2021.Â
He then took to Instagram and wrote on a crudely put together image, “Ok ok, we had a baby… His name is Cosmo.
“Privacy would be greatly appreciated,” and then directed all inquiries to their “publicist” Michael Che, his Weekend Update costar.
Jost added a number of hashtags, including a cheeky stab at tabloids, saying “we got away with it for a long time”.
Three months later, Johansson confirmed on the red carpet of the 35th Annual American Cinematheque Awards that she had given birth.
“I feel very fortunate that I’ve been able to take this time to really enjoy the early stages of my motherhood with our son,” she shared with Entertainment Tonight.
“It’s been wonderful. I’m in a baby bliss bubble.”
Since then, the couple have been supportive of each other’s endeavours – Johansson with her multiple films and skincare line and Jost with SNL, with his wife recently returning to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary.

They did many skits together, with Johansson closing the show as Jost gifted her a bouquet of roses and they shared a kiss, which the rest of the cast members reacted to with disgust.
The appearance made SNL history, with the actress becoming the first female to host the show for the seventh time.
Days later, the couple put on a loved up display in Cannes, where Johansson made her directorial debut.
