After more than two decades at the BBC, it was announced on Monday that radio presenter Scott Mills has been sacked following allegations regarding his personal conduct. The presenter, 53, took over the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show from Zoe Ball over a year ago in January 2025 – just six months into being a newlywed.
Amid the recent news, read on for all you need to know about the star’s private life with his husband of almost two years away from his career in radio.
He’s been married nearly 2 years
Scott found love with his partner Sam Vaughan in 2017, a year after they met at a radio event. Fast forward seven years and the pair tied the knot in a star-studded wedding abroad in Spain in 2024.
“I always said I didn’t think I would ever get married. But then I met you Sam,” Scott gushed about his partner while announcing their engagement in October 2021. “You make me laugh every single day, you support me in so many ways and I adore everything about you. As soon as I met you I knew this could be something special and it is.”
The radio presenter and his husband said “I do” with rainbow-coloured smoke behind them on what Scott described as “the most magical day”. In the two years since tying the knot, the couple have shared snippets of their life on social media, including a recent trip to Dubai in January.
Earlier this month, Scott penned a candid piece for The i Paper about being frequently asked when he will have kids.
“The honest answer is that our lives are already pretty full in ways that sometimes feel a bit like parenting – just without the school runs, packed lunches and tantrums,” he wrote. “When Sam and I talk about it, we always agree on one thing: we’d probably be really good at it.”
“We’re both proud godfathers and uncles, and Sam is particularly brilliant with kids. He has this rare ability to drop straight into their world. He’s playful, he makes them laugh and somehow manages to hold the attention of even the most chaotic child,” he added.
They won Celebrity Race Across The World
Scott and Sam raced their way to victory on the second season of Celebrity Race Across the World in 2024. The couple were crowned the winners after 30 “incredible” days of travelling across South America, competing against other star pairings including Jeff Brazier and his son Freddy.
“I loved EVERY second on the race, the highs and the lows! The places we got to see were just incredible, the people we met along the way were so helpful and understanding!” Sam gushed on Instagram after wrapping up the series.
Scott called the experience the “ultimate test” of his relationship. “What is quite nice is – and it is probably something we will never ever have again – is that time where you are just in the moment. You’re not scrolling on your phone and, actually, the only thing to think about is the race,” he said on BBC Wales ahead of the show airing.
Inside their home life
In an article for The i Paper, Scott opened up about how he and Sam “divide” tasks in their marriage. While Sam arranges a lot of the mundane tasks like cleaning the house and the weekly grocery shop, Scott plans all their holidays. Along with their most recent trip to Dubai at the start of the year, the couple finished off 2025 with a trip to Puglia, Italy last November.
“He doesn’t really care where we go; he’ll say, “You just do it, this is your thing.” So I do. We decide together when we’re going, but I’ll sort the details,” Scott explained, adding that they “don’t divide things based on what looks equal on paper; we divide them based on who has the energy when.”
