“I’m gonna burn it all down.”
Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for Scream 7, marking the highly anticipated return of Neve Campbell as the iconic final girl, Sidney Prescott. After sitting out Scream VI, Campbell is officially back, and she’s not running anymore.
The seventh installment in the slasher franchise has had quite the journey since it was first announced in August 2023. Following the box office success of Scream VI, Scream 7 faced a wave of production hurdles including the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, behind-the-scenes shakeups, and major casting changes. But now, with the trailer out, the Ghostface mask is back, and so is the blood.
According to the official synopsis: “When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.”
It’s a story that hits close to home, literally. Sidney’s story has always been about survival, and now, it looks like she’s stepping into her fiercest fight yet, this time as a mother defending her daughter.
The film has gone through plenty of twists off-screen as well. Melissa Barrera, who led the last two movies as Sam Carpenter, was removed from the project after social media comments about the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Jenna Ortega exited soon after, citing a scheduling conflict with the second season of Netflix’s Wednesday. And in another curveball, Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon departed in late 2023, making way for Kevin Williamson, the original Scream creator, to return to the director’s chair.
Despite the setbacks, Scream 7 is stacking its cast with both familiar and fresh faces. Alongside Campbell, fans will see the return of Courteney Cox, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown.
In a surprising twist, David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Scott Foley are reprising their deceased characters, which is going to be interesting.
Newcomers to Woodsboro’s bloody playground include Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, Mark Consuelos, and Ethan Embry.
With Williamson steering the franchise back to its roots and Campbell reclaiming her throne as the ultimate scream queen, this next chapter promises to blend nostalgia with fresh terror.
The trailer teases a darker, more personal story, one where Sidney Prescott isn’t just trying to survive; she’s ready to end Ghostface’s reign for good.
