Over the past several years, video game file sizes have reached levels that many players would consider excessive. Each new release seems to push the boundaries even further, especially among major Western AAA studios. What used to be considered a large game a decade ago now looks modest compared to today’s massive installs. For a recent example, take a look at Oblivion: Remastered, which launched with a file size of more than 120GB. And if that’s where we already are, it’s a little unsettling to imagine just how enormous Grand Theft Auto VI will be when it finally arrives.

Meanwhile, Xbox consoles haven’t seen any significant improvements to their default storage. The Xbox Series X still comes equipped with a 1TB internal drive, which sounds like a lot on paper but feels remarkably small in practice when modern games regularly demand anywhere from 80GB to 150GB each. If you enjoy playing a wide variety of titles rather than rotating between only a few, you’re almost guaranteed to encounter the constant cycle of deleting and reinstalling games. It’s a tedious ritual that no one really wants to deal with.

Fortunately, there’s a far more convenient solution: expanding your console’s storage with a dedicated external card. Seagate offers an official expansion card specifically designed for the Xbox Series X and Series S, and for a limited time, Amazon is running a significant sale on several of its models.

At the moment, Amazon has three capacities of the Seagate expansion card discounted. The 1TB version, normally $160, is now available for just $126, knocking $34 off the usual price. The 2TB model has dropped from $260 to $200, giving buyers a generous $60 savings. But the most dramatic deal is on the enormous 4TB card. Typically sold for $500, it’s currently marked down to $380 — a huge $120 discount. In terms of pure value, the 4TB option stands out as the best deal, offering an impressive 24% off.

Install More, Delete Less

Considering the Xbox Series X begins with only 1TB of internal storage, these cards can drastically increase the space you have available. Depending on which model you choose, you could effectively double, triple, or even quintuple your console’s capacity. That means far fewer tough decisions about which games to remove and much more room to keep your library installed and ready to play.

The Seagate expansion card is effortless to install. While the PlayStation 5 requires users to open the console’s casing and install an M.2 SSD manually, the Xbox approach is far more streamlined. The Seagate card simply plugs into a dedicated slot on the back of the console — no tools, no screws, and no technical expertise required. Once connected, you can choose whether new games download directly to your internal storage or the expansion card.

Games stored on the Seagate card perform exactly the same as those on the internal SSD. Microsoft’s Xbox Velocity Architecture, which enables features like Quick Resume, works seamlessly with the expansion card. Quick Resume allows players to freeze their progress in one game, jump into another entirely different title, and then instantly return to where they left off. Whether you’re switching from a tense match in Rocket League to a scenic drive in Forza Horizon 5, the transition is fast and frictionless.

For Xbox owners frustrated by ballooning file sizes and limited storage, this sale offers an ideal chance to greatly expand your game library without breaking the bank. Get the expansion drive for as little as $126 ahead of Black Friday.
