Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow have fired back at Peter Rosenberg after the radio host demanded they be removed from the Hot 97 Summer Jam lineup for supporting Donald Trump.
The Hot 97 personality took to the airwaves on Thursday (May 30) to criticize the New York drill rappers for attending a recent Trump rally in the Bronx and publicly endorsing the controversial former president.
“I’m disgusted. Hit ’em both with the button as far as I’m concerned,” he said. “I hit everybody at the station, ‘Let’s pull them off Summer Jam.’ I just want y’all to know, that is me, Karen Rosenberg, I don’t want ’em on Summer Jam.”
Sleepy Hallow is on the bill for this year’s event alongside the likes of Doja Cat, Sexyy Red and French Montana. Sheff G isn’t listed as a performer, but could appear on stage during his frequent collaborator’s set.
Rosenberg did, however, show Sleepy Hallow some leniency due to him laughing while speaking at the rally.
“You can tell it’s a big joke to him, which to me in some ways makes it worse,” he added. “But that ‘make America great again,’ he can barely hold himself together from laughing. What kind of endorsement is that?”
Both rappers caught wind of Rosenberg’s comments and subsequently hit back on social media.
“This old n-gga is d!ck eater [crying laughter emoji],” Sleepy Hallow wrote on his Instagram Stories while resharing the clip.
Sheff issued a lengthier and more philosophical response, writing: “Damn.. thought we was free to vote for whoever we wanted… I never knew we had to have the same political opinion as @laurastylez @oldmanebro @rosenbergradio in order to gain success[.] imagine that…
“Crazy thing is .. throughout all my success I never seen either of y’all mention my name .. y’all sat silently and watched lol ( whisper) … but as soon as something that y’all consider negative comes up, y’all quick to (shout) lol.
He concluded: “y’all the reason our generation is the way it is .. I’m not even gone say no disrespectful shit either [slight frown emoji] it’s all love [blue heart emoji] #everythinglit.”
The rally in question took place in the rapper’s hometown of the Bronx last week, where they both shared the stage with Trump and spoke to the crowd.
“One thing I wanna say… they always gonna whisper your accomplishments and shout your failures. Trump gonna shout the wins for all of us,” Sheff said.
After shaking Trump’s hand, Sleepy simply said into the microphone, “Make America great again!” to loud cheers from the crowd.
While their appearance garnered praise from Trump supporters, including recent convert Amber Rose who commented: “Let’s gooooo #trump2024,” the duo were largely criticized for endorsing the former president.
Some fans even suggested that Sheff and Sleepy were cozying up to Trump to secure favors from the president once he’s in office given their respective legal troubles.
