Sheinelle Jones misses TODAY after passing second Father’s Day without late husband

Sheinelle Jones appears to be taking it easy after a presumably tough weekend.

On Monday, June 22, the TODAY anchor was absent from TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle, one day after Father’s Day in the U.S.

This Sunday marked the second time the TV host passed the holiday without her husband Uche Ojeh, who passed away on May 23, 2025, at the age of 45, following a battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.

Upon the start of the 4th Hour of TODAY, host Jenna Bush Hager did not indicate why Sheinelle was absent from the show, not disclosing whether she was taking a personal day or if she was busy with an out-of-studio assignment.

In her place was Matt Rogers, a frequent guest co-host of Jenna’s, known for the popular Las Culturistas podcast, which he hosts with Saturday Night Live alum Bowen Yang.

Sheinelle and Uche were college sweethearts, who married in 2007 and were parents to three kids, son Kayin, 16, and twins Clara and Uche, 13.

Last month, Sheinelle revealed on 4th Hour that she was in the process of moving out of the family’s home, reportedly a residence in Livingston Manor, in upstate New York, which is about two hours away from New York City.

“I’m moving,” she said in a May 14 episode of TODAY, sharing: “The kids are going to a new school, so we’re moving. I have been going through boxes and boxes and boxes in our basement.”

Jenna noted at the time that moving is one of the most “stressful” things one can do, and Sheinelle quipped back: “As if I need more stress,” adding that there are still piles of boxes she has barely tended to from when she first moved her family from Philadelphia to New York, in 2014, when she became a TODAY anchor.

“I started, after a while, not even wanting to look through boxes,” she explained, noting that her babysitter was helping her go through everything. “I’m like, ‘Just throw it out. If I haven’t seen it in five years, just throw it out.’ And she’s like, ‘No, Sheinelle. We’ve got to go through everything.'”

She later shared that her babysitter asked if she knew where her wedding dress was, adding that she almost threw out a box that unbeknownst to her was storing the dress, having assumed it was still at her parents’ house.

Sheinelle further shared that she never got the dress preserved as everyone had suggested she do, and that much of the hem is dirty after having taken pictures on the Philadelphia streets, but she does see the dress “differently” now, since her husband’s death.
