Sour Widows have announced their new album, Sigil, out Oct. 23 via Julia’s War.
The full-length was made in LA with producer Melina Duterte (aka Jay Som) and titled after a dream about the world ending and terrible events unfolding — from a genocide leaving corpses decaying under the sun to psychological abuse and physical control. Sigil explores how these struggles also give rise to justified anger, unity, and liberation.

Previewing the LP is “Blood in the Grass,” a song about found family and friendship. The release includes a video directed by Sinaiko and Thomson.
“‘Blood in the Grass’ is about fate, creating family, and finding refuge in one another in times of spiritual and physical pain,” Thomson says. “It’s a gift to share pain with someone you love while you are alive because you can’t do that after you die. This song is set in the natural world because all living things are the same when they are born. In nature, the state of vulnerability is a fact that is fundamental to life and can’t be obscured.”
This fall, Sour Widows will tour across America alongside Squirrel Flower.
