SPACED brought their “far-out hardcore” to a stacked tour with Militarie Gun, Pool Kids, and Spiritual Cramp last year. Now, the Buffalo, New York group have signed to Pure Noise Records and announced their latest EP, No Escape, out Oct. 17.
“Cause and Effect” leads off the EP, arriving alongside a video featuring comedian Ian Fidance as “joke extradiore” Marshall Smelly. After his set, the band play the open mic, ripping into a headrush of psychy guitars, elevated production, and Lexi Reyngoudt’s coolly delivered shouts (honed from practicing songs off Big Kiss Goodnight and Nonstop Feeling in her car). “This song expresses the anger and frustration we feel about our current society and the norms that are placed upon us,” Reyngoudt says. “We’re told to be quiet and just obey, but we really should be fighting back and speaking our minds. ‘Cause and Effect’ is an anthem for the times: ‘You pushed us too far; now it’s time we push back.’”
