Spanish Love Songs announced their forthcoming EP, A Brief Intermission in the Flattening of Time, out Nov. 21 via Pure Noise Records. It marks the first new release since 2023’s No Joy and was created following a spontaneous studio session with producer Arun Bali. A Brief Intermission in the Flattening of Time features several artists, including Kevin Devine, Tigers Jaw, illuminati hotties, and the Wonder Years.
“Cocaine and Lexapro” featuring Devine is the poignant counterpart to the band’s track “Beer & Nyquil (Hold It Together)” from their 2018 album, Schmaltz. Through a wiser, more reflective perspective, the song revisits the same anxieties about stagnation and the unpredictable pace of life.

“I’ve been trying to work with Kevin for a while now,” frontman/guitarist Dylan Slocum says. “We have a good number of mutual friends but had never met up until this. The reasoning was simple — our band doesn’t exist without Kevin Devine. He took what I had demoed as an angry, contrarian second verse and turned it into something delicate and full of pathos. It absolutely floored me the first time I heard his vocal tracks dropped in.”
Tigers Jaw features on the EP’s second track, “Berlin,” which is a dark, subdued romantic story that weaves the story of a relationship shadowed by a partner’s mysterious past — one that continues to resurface and haunt you both.
“Tigers Jaw is another band that we love dearly and had somehow never met despite having friends in common,” Slocum explains. “When we announced the Common Thread tour this year and saw they were on the bill, we figured we’d take a shot and asked if they’d be interested to sing on our weird song. At first, we thought only Ben [Walsh] was tracking, but when we received the track back and heard Brianna [Collins] doing the harmonies, we absolutely lost our mind. It’s the Tigers Jaw thing we love on an SLS song. That feeling is one of the core reasons we even toyed with the idea of having features, and in that moment, made the entire experiment worth it.”
Spanish Love Songs are currently on their tour in Europe and the U.K. with support from the Dirty Nil, Sincere Engineer, and Kali Masi. In the middle of their headliner, they’ll join the Common Thread tour alongside Tigers Jaw before wrapping up the rest of their headline shows.
