Over the weekend, Saturday Night Live hosted the kickoff to its 50th season on NBC. The episode featured Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Hacks actress Jean Smart as the host, and Jelly Roll as the musical guest.
It was a fun catch-up with plenty of political fuel for the fire in the opening segment as well as the Weekend Update.
There were plenty of skits that made fans chuckle, and one of them was the fake commercial the show made for Spirit Halloween stores, which centered around the humorous fact that when a store shuts down, you can always count on Spirit to move in and set up shop during spooky season.
Now, Spirit Halloween is jabbing back at the sketch show with a social media post that features a photo of a faux Halloween costume bag from the store, and a description that reads, “Irrelevant 50-Year-Old TV Show” that includes “dated references, unknown cast members and shrinking ratings.” “We are great at raising things back from the dead,” the Spirit Halloween account wrote in the caption.
Dang, shots were fired. I guess it’s all in good fun, but the post seems a little bit more pointed than the commercial did. Check it all out below, and enjoy:
