The Sundance Institute has unveiled the Park City Legacy program for the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, a special initiative celebrating the Festival’s rich history, iconic films, and community in Utah.
Taking place during the second half of the Festival from January 27–30, 2026, the program will feature archival and restored screenings of influential past films, artist talks with Festival alumni, and public events honoring the legacy of founder Robert Redford.
The 2026 Festival, running from January 22–February 1 in Park City and Salt Lake City, with an online program available from January 29–February 1, will commemorate Redford’s impact on independent cinema, including a special screening of Downhill Racer, his first independent film and the project that inspired the creation of Sundance Institute and the Festival itself.

Second Row L-R: Little Miss Sunshine, Downhill Racer, Half Nelson
Bottom Row L-R: Humpday, House Party, Saw
The Park City Legacy film lineup offers a cross-section of stories that have shaped independent filmmaking, including digitally restored versions of:

- House Party (Reginald Hudlin) – 1990 Sundance premiere
- Half Nelson (Ryan Fleck) – 20th anniversary
- American Dream (Barbara Kopple) – 35th anniversary

Filmmakers and cast members for these screenings, including Ryan Gosling, Abigail Breslin, Jonathan Dayton, Valerie Faris, Reginald and Warrington Hudlin, Gregg Araki, James Wan, and others, are expected to attend.
The program also includes Beyond Film talks, a series of discussions reflecting on legacy, storytelling, and the evolution of the Festival, with select sessions held at the historic Egyptian Theatre, celebrating its 100th anniversary. A culmination event for the public on January 30 will honor the local Utah community and the Festival’s decades-long impact.
Tickets and passes go on sale October 22, with a range of in-person and online options available, including curated Festival Packages, Express Passes, and passes for young adults and locals. Single-film tickets will be available starting January 14, 2026.
“This year is especially poignant as we reflect on Robert Redford’s vision, which provided a home for generations of artists and redefined independent cinema,” said Eugene Hernandez, Sundance Film Festival Director of Public Programming. Kim Yutani, Director of Programming, emphasized the importance of connecting alumni, artists, and the local community in celebration of Sundance’s history and impact.
The Park City Legacy program offers audiences a rare opportunity to experience restored independent classics, revisit pivotal Sundance premieres, and engage with filmmakers and artists who continue to shape the landscape of American cinema.
