It seems not everyone in Superman got the same payday! The latest report reveals the cast of the DC Universe’s first film got very different checks in the mail.
The pay given by superhero films has always been a deeply fascinating topic. The DC Universe has historically paid out the nose for their actors, with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson getting over $20 million for his role in Black Adam. This left many to wonder just how much the Superman cast would be getting paid, especially given how integral they would likely be to the future of the franchise.
Luckily, it seems as though the cast was paid well. However, that doesn’t mean that they were paid the same. The latest report from Puck, a newsletter from industry professional Matthew Belloni, Rachel Brosnahan and David Corenswet were each paid $750,000 for their roles. Certainly a hefty sum, until one looks to see that Nicholas Hoult was apparently paid $2 million for his role as Lex Luthor in Superman.
Why Did Some Cast Members Of Superman Make More Than Others?
This likely isn’t surprising to anyone familiar with the cast of Superman. Nicholas Hoult is a much bigger star than both Rachel Brosnahan and David Corenswet, so it makes sense that the actor cost much more to bring onto the film. However, the report also makes it clear that all three actors negotiated backend deals based on the project’s success, even if they didn’t specify what the exact numbers ended up being.
It’s also not as though Nicholas Hoult will be paid more than David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan into perpetuity. Robert Downey Jr. infamously only made $500,000 from the first Iron Man movie, before bumping his pay up to $10 million for the sequel. While it’s not likely any of the cast will make that kind of money, the success of Superman likely means their asking price has nowhere to go but up, up and away!
