DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn teased a DC Universe project entering production soon that has yet to be revealed to the public. The studio head and filmmaker also offered another update on his forthcoming Superman follow-up movie.
More than a dozen projects have been announced for the DCU, from Lanterns and Booster Gold to Clayface and Swamp Thing. However, Gunn recently added a new mystery project to that slate during his appearance on Chris Hardwick’s podcast, I Think You’re Overthinking It.
What’s next for DC Studios?
“I can say that probably the next movie we’re gonna be making is the follow-up to Superman, which I don’t want to get in too much detail on, but like that’s what’s probably the next film we’re making, I think,” Gunn shared with Hardwick (via The Playlist). “Well, hopefully we’re making [The Batman Part II] before that, and then I think it’s [the Superman follow-up]. And then we have another TV show, which nobody knows about, which is going next.”
Gunn stating that “nobody knows” anything about the next DC show to enter production implies that it has yet to have been announced, ruling out Booster Gold, Waller, Paradise Lost, and the animated Blue Beetle and Mister Miracle series from consideration. There have been reports stating that DC is interested in developing Superman spin-offs for the small screen, although until Gunn reveals the project, fans likely won’t know exactly what to expect from the mystery show.
I Think You’re Overthinking It wasn’t the only podcast that Gunn swung by this week. The DC head also appeared on Deadline’s Crew Call with Anthony D’Alessandro, where he teased the inclusion of the Justice Gang in the Superman sequel.
“It’s within the group of characters we’ve already met, and Superman’s an important element of it,” Gunn shared. “So, that’s what I’ll say, but like that movie, that treatment is done.”
Superman is currently playing in theaters and is also available on digital.
