Warning: Spoilers for Superwoman Special #1
The Superman family has faced a major shift with the rise of Lois Lane’s Superwoman, and now she’s taken on a leadership role by forming her own Kryptonian team. Superwoman enlists two powerful Kryptonians to fight alongside her, altering the dynamics of the Super-Family and introducing a brand-new team to the DC Universe.
Superwoman Special #1 by Joshua Williamson, Laura Braga, Čižmešija, and Edwin Galmon will reveal how Lois Lane received powers as Superwoman, and the preview for this landmark issue opens with Lois struggling to write a story. To take her mind off her writer’s block, Superman family allies Kara Zor-El and Lana Lang invite Lois to fight crime with them.
As Lois suits up as Superwoman, Kara and Lana join her as Supergirl and Superwoman respectively, and the three of them protect the streets of Metropolis together. This Kryptonian trio is an instantly iconic lineup, giving Superwoman a formidable team to back her up.
Lois Lane’s Superwoman Forms the Ultimate Female Superhero Team
Three Kryptonian Powerhouses Join Forces to Protect Metropolis
Superwoman’s team combines the powers of three Kryptonian heroes from the Superman family. Each member possesses unique qualities that allow them to stand out, and they’re all worthy additions to a super-powered lineup. Kara Zor-El’s Supergirl stands out as the only naturally born Kryptonian, having grown up on Krypton prior to its destruction. Her powers, which include heat vision and enhanced durability, are thus very similar to Superman’s as a result of their shared biology. She also recently acquired a mind control ability that lets her alter the memories of others, which makes her a valuable asset to Superwoman’s roster.

Superman & Lois Lane’s Romance Gets a Major Role Reversal as Superwoman Proves She’s No Longer a Damsel in Distress
Now that Lois Lane has officially become DC’s new Superwoman, she’s flipped her dynamic with Superman on its head by saving him for a change.
Superwoman’s team also features Lana Lang, who fights under the name of Superwoman as well. A former love interest of Clark Kent from his years in Smallville, Lana developed Kryptonian powers when she absorbed them from the deceased New 52 Superman. As Superwoman, Lana bears a resemblance to Clark’s “Superman Red” clone from the ’90s, whose powers are energy-based and present themselves through sparks of red electricity. Now, through circumstances that have yet to be unveiled, Lois Lane has become the second Superwoman and can now face off against villains with these fellow Kryptonian-level women by her side.
Superwoman’s Kryptonian Trio Subverts the Superman Family Structure
The Super-Family Is No Longer Male-Dominated, Thanks to Superwoman
Typically, Superman acts as the leader of the Super-Family due to his prolific status in DC lore and his position as Earth’s strongest Kryptonian. With Superman leading the charge, the Superman family tends to be a bit male-centric, as the women tend to be sidelined in favor of the men. Here, Lois Lane replaces Superman in that central role as she unites Supergirl and Lana Lang’s Superwoman to create their own group within their heroic familial unit. Superwoman leading an all-female team of Kryptonians offers a refreshing change of pace for the Superman family, spotlighting its women in an exciting new way.
Superwoman Special #1 is available December 11th, 2024 from DC Comics.
