Does the MCU have its perfect Storm? SZA speaks out on her hopes to join the Marvel universe by playing one of the most iconic members of the X-Men.
With Marvel now on the hunt for the perfect X-Men cast for their MCU reboot, one of the biggest characters people have been watching rumors for is Storm. The character is one of the most beloved in Marvel’s entire catalogue, with her having been in almost every incarnation of the team in recent memory. This has led to dozens of actresses being floated for the role, from DeWanda Wise to Wicked‘s Cynthia Erivo.
Now a new actress has thrown her name into the eye of the Storm. SZA, who recently made her superhero debut as Catwoman in a State Farm commercial, revealed that she’d love to play a superhero in the Marvel or DC Universe. Though if she had to pick one, it seems as though her sights are set on the Weather Witch of the X-Men when the character finally comes to the MCU.
“I would love to be a superhero,” SZA told the Jennifer Hudson Show. “Storm has an origin story. She comes from this whole other place where it’s like the jungle- I think that would be so gnarly if I could be Storm’s origin story.”
Is SZA Playing Storm In The MCU?
Given Marvel is likely looking to pack as much starpower as they can into their X-Men reboot for the MCU, it wouldn’t be shocking to see SZA pick up the role as Storm. She’s certainly the biggest name currently in the mix for the character, if the rumors are to be believed. She also fits in the age range of most of the other rumored actresses, only being 35-years-old.
A film focused on Storm’s origin story could also be interesting given she’s one of the biggest names in the X-Men. If any character in the roster was going to draw crowds for their solo outing, it would certainly be here. And with SZA recently serving as the supporting lead for the surprise hit One Of Them Days, she may just have the acting chops to pull it off.
