A24 is officially moving forward with a sequel to its hit supernatural occult horror film Talk to Me, and the original directors Danny and Michael Philippou, are set to return and helm the film with Danny Philippou writing the screenplay with Bill Hinzman. The sequel is titled Talk 2 Me.
There are no details shared on what the sequel will entail, but I have no doubt the cursed embalmed hand will find itself being used all over again. The filmmakers previously revealed that they had already started working on a sequel.
When talking about a possible sequel, Danny Philippou said: “When we were writing the first film, we couldn’t help but write scenes for a sequel as well. Our bible on the movie is so extensive. We’ve got this massive mythology bible where we broke down every single spirit that the kids connected with, every single rule, every single part of the hand, and the history behind it. So I think there’s so much to explore.”
He added: “I’d be so excited about the idea of doing a sequel, and there’s a hundred different directions that you could take it. So yeah, oh my gosh, it would be so cool to do a sequel. I’d love that opportunity.”
The filmmakers also already shot a prequel that they are looking to release at some point. That prequel is based on the opening scene of the film and it focuses on Duckett, who was a previous victim of the cursed hand at the center of the story. Talk To Me starts at a party when a guy named Cole shows up at a house party looking for his brother Duckett. That whole thing does not end well.
Talk To Me centers on a group of teens that have some fun and find a rush in conjuring spirits and being possessed by them. “Conjuring spirits has become the latest local party craze, and looking for a distraction on the anniversary of her mother’s death, teenage Mia (Sophie Wilde) is determined to get a piece of the otherworldly action. When her group of friends gathers for another unruly séance with the mysterious embalmed hand that promises a direct line to the spirits, they’re unprepared for the consequences of bending the rules through prolonged contact. As the boundary between worlds collapses and disturbing supernatural visions increasingly haunt Mia, she rushes to undo the horrific damage before it’s irreversible.”
When I saw this movie at Sundance, I knew that it was going to be a huge hit. I’m happy to see that it’s finding success and that we are going to get a sequel!
