The Sims 4‘s newly announced upcoming expansion pack, Businesses & Hobbies, is set for release on March 6, 2025, bringing with it an abundance of highly anticipated content that is sure to enhance the game, including a newer and improved tattoo system. Tattoos, a previously limited way for players to customize their Sims in The Sims 4, are getting an entire overhaul. In Businesses & Hobbies, players will be able to custom draw tattoos for their Sims and will be able to layer them, allowing a lot of creative freedom when it comes to character customization.
Not only are tattoos and their designs becoming a focused feature in The Sims 4 thanks to Businesses & Hobbies, but players will also be able to have the opportunity to open up their very own tattoo parlors. The addition of tattoo parlors is a very welcome one in The Sims 4, allowing players to explore running a creative and thriving business while enabling Sims to express themselves in a way that had not previously been a focus in the game. However, the introduction of tattoo parlors in The Sims 4 seems to have missed a key gameplay opportunity by excluding the art of piercing.
Tattoo Parlors Are A Great Addition For Businesses & Hobbies
A More Complex System Would Be Ideal For Fans
The addition of a more complex and customizable tattoo system, as well as tattoo parlors, is a welcome delight when playing Businesses & Hobbies in The Sims 4. The feature of tattoo parlors will provide some meaningful Live Mode gameplay, where players will be able to engage in a variety of actions.
This includes building unique and visually attractive parlors, hiring staff, and having Sims participate in the art of giving tattoos. This brand-new system in The Sims 4 will ensure that tattoos aren’t just a customizable option in Create-A-Sim, but can manifest a meaningful experience for their Sims.
Tattoo Parlors Should Offer Piercings In The Sims 4
It’s An Odd Omission From The Update
While the new system of tattoo parlors as businesses will definitely elevate the gaming experience in The Sims 4, it seems a little unusual that EA did not include piercing as a feature in them. As the two art forms often go hand-in-hand, the option for players to create not just tattoo parlors, but tattoo and piercing parlors, could have enhanced the new tattoo focus even more.

One Iconic Sims 4 Character Is Actually Terrifying In The Sims 1
The Sims 4 makes a potentially terrifying force relatively friendly, but that approachability wasn’t always the case, especially in The Sims 1.
Because tattoo shops in real life often offer not only tattoos, but piercings as well, it does seem like a massive oversight that the two will not be introduced together in Businesses & Hobbies. While piercings are already available in Create-A-Sim, the process of Sims getting them done professionally would have been a fun feature to experience.
There’s no denying that the Business & Hobbies expansion pack will definitely implement some very exciting changes in The Sims 4 with its amazing amount of content that will enhance Live Mode. However, while tattoo parlors are a feature many players can look forward to, the absence of piercing as a profession may be disappointing to some.
This missing feature does unfortunately limit the realism that could have been achieved with Businesses & Hobbies and made gameplay in tattoo parlors in The Sims 4 even better. Hopefully, the addition of piercing as a profession is something that EA will introduce in a future game update.
